On September 10, 2022, King Charles III was officially crowned as the new British monarch. The coronation ceremony, held at Westminster Abbey, was a formal confirmation of Charles' role as head of state, which he had assumed following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, two days prior.

The ceremony was steeped in tradition and included all the expected pomp and circumstance. The new king and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, both received their crowns in separate ceremonies. Charles was crowned with St. Edward's crown, the same crown his mother wore at her own coronation in 1953, while Camilla was crowned with Queen Mary's crown, marking the first time an existing crown was used for the queen consort's coronation.

The coronation was attended by many dignitaries, including First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who wore a royal blue Ralph Lauren suit dress with a matching bow headpiece. Biden's granddaughter, Finnegan Biden, was also in attendance, dressed in yellow from head to toe.

The event also saw appearances from celebrities such as Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, as well as members of the royal family, including Prince William and Princess Kate's children, who participated in the service. However, much of the attention was on Charles' sons, William and Harry, as the two brothers reunited after a period of strained relations.

While the balcony appearance after the coronation is usually a gleeful moment for the royal family, this year's event was marred by the absence of Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. Harry had stepped back from his royal duties in recent years and his attendance had been in doubt. The absence of Prince Andrew, who had been embroiled in controversy related to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was less surprising.

The coronation was not without controversy, as protestors gathered in London to voice their opposition to the monarchy. Six protestors, including Graham Smith, the chief executive of Republic, a prominent anti-monarchy group in the UK, were arrested while unloading signs reading "Not My King."

Despite these distractions, the coronation of King Charles III was a historic event that marks a new era for the British monarchy. As he takes up his duties as head of state, all eyes will be on Charles to see how he will lead the country in the years to come.
