MMA Icon Shares Thoughts on Jake Paul Before Bout with Nate Diaz

Jake Paul, the YouTube star turned boxer, may not be as impressive as initially believed according to former two-weight UFC champion, Daniel Cormier. Paul is set to fight former UFC fighter Nate Diaz in an eight-round boxing match at 185 pounds on August 5th in Dallas, Texas.

This fight will be Paul's first since his first professional boxing defeat to Tommy Fury. Fury, a real professional boxer, defeated Paul in a split decision, despite Paul managing to knock him down during the fight. Cormier, who watched the match, was not impressed with Paul's boxing skills, which he found to be lacking compared to other elite boxers.

“When watching Jake fight against Tommy Fury, he’s not as good as we originally thought,” Cormier said on DC & RC (via MMA Junkie). “Because Tommy Fury pretty much limited him to just throwing overhand rights. He didn’t have an answer for Tommy Fury, a guy that’s been boxing for as long as Fury’s been boxing. He just kept trying to hit him with the overhand right. I respected what he was doing because he beat Anderson (Silva) in a boxing match, and what he had did to Tyron and those guys. So, I did think that he was really improving. But I think in watching the Tommy Fury match, it showed me how limited he still is in terms of his boxing development because when that weapon [right hand] was rendered useless. He just kept going to it, and it became more and more evident that it wasn’t going to land. But he didn’t have a plan B.”

Despite this, Cormier acknowledges that Paul may have a size advantage over Diaz, who usually competes at 170 pounds in the UFC. However, unlike Paul's previous MMA opponents, Diaz has a solid background in boxing, making him a formidable opponent for Paul.

It's worth noting that Diaz will be making his professional boxing debut against Jake Paul. It remains to be seen how Diaz will fare against Paul, who has been training as a professional boxer for several years now.

The upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz has generated a lot of interest, and many are eager to see who will come out on top. Fans of both fighters are eagerly awaiting the fight and are hoping for an exciting matchup that will showcase the best of both fighters' skills. Only time will tell who will emerge as the winner on August 5th.
