More than 100 students across Virginia Beach City Public Schools received new bicycles and helmets this week thanks to a holiday giving initiative led by local community partners.
According to the school division, the International Longshoremen’s Association teamed up with Make A Kid Smile For Christmas to donate a total of 105 bicycles and 105 helmets to students at three elementary schools. The donations were distributed on December 17 at College Park Elementary, Woodstock Elementary, and Fairfield Elementary, with each school receiving 35 bikes and helmets.
The bike giveaway began at College Park Elementary on Bennington Road around 8:30 a.m., followed by Woodstock Elementary on Providence Road at approximately 9 a.m. The final distribution took place shortly after at Fairfield Elementary, also located on Providence Road.
School officials said the initiative was designed to support students in need while bringing joy to families during the holiday season. The bicycles not only offer a meaningful gift but also provide students with a reliable way to stay active and engaged outside of school.
District leaders expressed gratitude to the organizations involved, noting that community partnerships play a vital role in supporting students beyond the classroom. The effort reflects a continued commitment from local groups to invest in the well-being and happiness of children throughout Virginia Beach.
The holiday bike donation is one of several community-led initiatives aimed at uplifting families during the winter season, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between schools and local organizations.
