The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has opened expansion for the 2026-2027 season. "After record-setting expansion for the upcoming season, we are now focusing attention on the following season," stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. "There are still many great cities available in our four regions (North, South, Central and West), but we would really like to expand in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado."
The ABA is the largest professional sports league in the US with nearly 150 teams. "There are many reasons for our incredible growth," Newman added, "it is still easier to own and operate an ABA team than any other. We have a fabulous business model centered around fan base and revenue, press/media and community support, and our hands-on management system is second to none. And right now, we have an "Early Bird Special" that makes it even easier to own a team. Doing it now gives the new owner more time to prepare and do the things necessary to ensure success."
