China Calls for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid at Sudan Conflict Talks

 




From July 25 to 26, 2024, Ambassador Lyu Jian of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the Sudan Conflict Mediators Coordination Meeting held in Djibouti. This significant gathering saw the participation of representatives from over 20 countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Sudan, Chad, Central Africa, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. Additionally, representatives from international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the Arab League were present.

Ambassador Lyu Jian delivered a speech at the meeting, articulating China's position on the ongoing Sudanese conflict. He emphasized that a political settlement is the only viable solution to the crisis. "The pressing task is to push for an early ceasefire and help ease the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, while earnestly respecting Sudan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity," Lyu stated. He further expressed China's readiness to collaborate with the international community to expedite the restoration of peace and stability in Sudan.


The meeting, initiated and hosted by the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, IGAD, and the Arab League, provided a platform for extensive exchanges among the participating parties. Ambassador Lyu Jian took this opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogues with representatives from various countries and organizations, reinforcing China's commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Sudanese conflict.
