Tyson Fury will take on Oleksandr Usyk to unify the main four boxing titles to name the new Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. The fight will take place Saturday, May 18th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will also be available via PPV on streaming sports network DAZN.
There hasn’t been an undisputed heavyweight champion in over 23 years since Lennox Lewis defeated Hasim Rahman with a decisive knockout victory November 17, 2001. This is the first major boxing event to come to the Kingdom Arena since the “Day of Reckoning” where Anthony Joshua defeated Otto Wallin and Deontay Wilder sustained a surprise upset loss to Joseph Parker.
Fury is currently undefeated at 34 wins and 1 draw, including 24 wins by knockout. The English fighter is currently trained by “SugarHill” Steward, an American professional boxer and former Detroit police officer. “SugarHill” is the nephew of late boxing legend Emanuel Steward. The 6’9” Fury has a 6” height advantage over Usyk.
Usyk is a 2-time, 2-division world champion looking to become undisputed in 2 different weight classes. He defeated Anthony Joshua to become the Heavyweight Champion of the world in September 2021. He won an Olympic gold medal for Ukraine in 2012 in London.
When asked about the upcoming match, former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis told The Guardian, “You’re looking at two very good, very determined fighters, guys that have never lost [a professional bout]. We’re going to see, 18 May, who is the best in this era.” But he believes Fury may be the victor, “It’s an interesting matchup but I always say if two guys have the same technical skill, the bigger fighter wins because he can force his size on the other guy.”
Saudi Arabia is becoming a new international destination for live combat sports and entertainment and the 30,000+ capacity Kingdom Arena is excited to host the match. A new champion will be crowned as 2 heavyweights clash live on PPV. Learn more and order the PPV now for $69.99 on www.dazn.com
