Victoria's Secret Announces Global Fund for Cancer Research

Global lingerie giant, Victoria's Secret, announced the launch of their till-now-secret project Global Fund for Women's Cancers, along with partner Pelotonia. The announcement received much support for its advocacy of women and female health. The fund is expected to be administered by women and for women researchers.

Extensive funding for outstanding scientific study

Victoria's Secret and Pelotonia are giving out $100,000 each to five reputed female cancer researchers who have contributed significantly to the field of cancer research. Not only is the funding recognition of their rich contribution, but it is expected to help the researchers make great headway in furthering their study to find a cure for cancer. Currently, the two companies are accepting nominations for awardees – a task which is being overseen by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Focus is on breast and gynecologic cancers

Both Pelotonia and Victoria's Secret are women-oriented brands. The Global Fund for Women's Cancers is, for now, being exclusively directed towards the study of breast and gynecologic cancers.

While the 2021 grant is yet to be awarded, the duo is already in talks to chalk out plans for grants for the years 2022 and 2023. The companies are also planning to launch an exclusive women's network where grant winners will be able to interact with each other and their benefactors more closely. This network is expected to help the women researchers gain visibility and access to more funds from other benefactors in the future.

In a world where women's diseases are underfunded and understudied, a grant like this could make a powerful impact, believe experts.
