Selena Gomez Goes Behind the Scenes on "De Una Vez" Music Video | Vevo Footnotes

“‘De Una Vez’ was one of the first songs I worked on pretty early on. At the time, doing a Spanish project was just an idea being bounced around. Then the rest of the project just kind of happened really quickly and organically.” -Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has partnered with Vevo for an exclusive behind the scenes look at the music video for her first Spanish language single in nearly a decade, “De Una Vez” (“At Once”) in the latest installment of Vevo Footnotes.

Gomez describes the extensive collaborative process with producers Tainy (Bad Bunny, J
Balvin), Albert Hype, Jota Rosa and NEON16, which was recorded almost entirely over Zoom,
the deep symbolism behind the Milagro Sacred Heart and the thrill of using her own makeup
line, Rare Beauty, to create the look for the video.

FOOTNOTES OUTLINE:
(00:21) Narration: “De Una Vez” is the first video from Selena Gomez’s forthcoming Spanish
EP. It’s a beautiful journey combining mesmerizing visuals, Selena Gomez singing in Spanish,
and a melodic track produced by Tiany.

(00:33) Selena Gomez: “‘De Una Vez’ was one of the first songs I worked on pretty early on. At
the time, doing a Spanish project was just an idea being bounced around. Then the rest of the
project just kind of happened really quickly and organically.

(00:51) Tainy (who I Love) and his entire creative team at NEON16 (Jota Rosa, Albert Hype,
etc.) produced the track.

(00:56) - As For the process - we actually recorded almost the entire EP on Zoom due to
COVID.’

(01:06) Tainy: “We wanted to create something more emotional for this one, so we worked with
live instrumentation, classic keyboards, and elements that were a lot softer than a hard knocking
reggaeton track.”

(01:21) Selena Gomez: “One of the biggest collaborators on the EP is Elana Rose -- an
incredible female writer who I think really understands my heart and what I wanted to say with
this project.”

(01:32) My Rare Beauty makeup line had just launched, and it was so fun creating the look for
the video with my own makeup -- a surreal, proud moment for me.”

(01:46) Narration: Director Tania Verduzco and Adrian Pérez, aka Los Pérez, worked on the
video remotely from Barcelona.

(01:53) Los Pérez: “We wanted to find a concept that represented Selena’s Mexican roots and
express the emotion of the track in a simple and honest way. That’s how we thought about the
Mexican Heart as a metaphor of a wound, and how it gets healed through time.

(02:07) She was always very open to hear our thoughts and gave us a lot of freedom. We
chatted with her before the shoot and took her through the storyboard. It was very challenging
shooting day because of the amount of technical things that demanded her trust.”

(02:20) Selena Gomez: “The heart is the Milagro Sacred Heart, rooted in Mexican culture. The
concept was something Los Pérez had a strong understanding of since Tania is Mexican.”
